Mark 4:37-40
37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the
boat, so that it was already filling.
38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they
awoke Him and said to Him, "Teacher, do You not care that we are
perishing?"
39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea,
"Peace, be still!" And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.
40 But He said to them, "Why are you so fearful? How is
it that you have no faith?"
I
know I haven’t written in a long while, but God really struck my heart this
afternoon in prayer. I have a feeling that the Body has been going through a
great storm of persecution, and weariness the past month. It seems as though
the intensity of the testing and trials has increased tenfold, even in my own
life. When things seem to become unbearable we tend to panic, or blame God. The
disciples had already seen great miracles occur while walking with Jesus, and
saw the power of God, yet they still panicked. Why do we panic when things do not go
according to our plan? Is it that we truly do not trust in God, or remember
what He has done for us thus far in our lives? Why is it that we flip out when
the boat is rocked? Jesus was sleeping and resting when the boat was rocking,
and that is a perfect picture to what we are to do. In times of a great storm
and testing we are to rest in Him. You may say well He was Jesus the Son of
God, but do we forget that He abides in us and us in Him (1 John 4:13)?
Do we forget that we are heirs of the throne (Galatians 3:29)?
I
love also in this scripture how the disciples called on Jesus in a time of
need. Yes, Jesus rebuked them and their lack of faith, but they called on the
right person for help. Since He abides in us and us in Him we have the power to
speak to our storm and say, “Peace be still”! All authority has been given to
us to do so when He died and rose again. We carry the same resurrection power
in us, because He dwells in us. No situation is too big for God. This is the
God who made all of creation in 6 days, and had time to rest on the seventh!
This is a God who parted the Red Sea, who fed His people in the wilderness, who
breathed on dust and created man, who died for our sins only to resurrect and
endue us with this same power! We do not serve a little God! We serve a God
that makes the impossible, possible. Look at your situation and speak to it in
faith knowing that you carry Him inside of you. I have been standing on Joshua
1:9 which states, ““9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good
courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you
wherever you go."”.
